those measures is a UN Security Council resolution that would set the

state. If Barack Obama makes this move, it will
almost certainly be before the election in November. I had
previously reported that France was ready to introduce a similar UN Security
Council resolution back in September, but at that time the French
backed off because they did not have full support from the Obama
administration. But now that Obama is approaching the end of his term, he
suddenly seems more willing to make a bold move.

worshipers will be prohibited from visiting the site “until further notice,”
Israel’s public security minister said. Following the announcement, Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered "a significant hike"
in the number of police forces patrolling Jerusalem, Naharnet daily reports.
Palestinian authorities
quickly responded to the move, saying it was a "dangerous and blatant challenge" that would lead to
more tension and instability in an already volatile situation.

Sweden has recognized the occupied state of Palestine officially, according to its foreign ministry. The Scandinavian has become the first West-European EU state to recognize the territories. Israel is not pleased.

VATICAN CITY (AP) — The
Vatican officially recognized the state of Palestine in a new treaty finalized
Wednesday, immediately sparking Israeli ire and accusations that the move hurt
peace prospects.
The treaty, which concerns
the activities of the Catholic Church in Palestinian territory, makes clear
that the Holy See has switched its diplomatic recognition from the Palestine
Liberation Organization to the state of Palestine…The treaty was finalized days
before Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas visits Pope Francis at the Vatican.
Abbas is heading to Rome to attend Francis' canonization Sunday of two new
saints from the Holy Land.
The Vatican has been
referring unofficially to the state of Palestine for at least a year.
